Sandbox and Production
Every company has two workspaces. Build and test in the Sandbox, where only your approved phones get anything, then go live in Production.
The two workspaces#
| What | Sandbox | Production |
|---|---|---|
| Who receives campaigns | Only approved test devices | Every phone running your app with the live key |
| SDK key | pk_test_… | pk_live_… |
| Available | From sign-up, free | On a paid plan |
| Data | Separate: test devices and events stay out of live reports | Your live results |
Campaigns, locations, location groups, notifications, media, segments, devices and reports belong to one workspace. Company settings, the team and billing are shared by both, and you change them from Production.
Switch workspace#
- 1Open the switcherClick your company name at the top of the sidebar. The current workspace, Sandbox or Production, shows under the name.
- 2Choose a workspaceClick Production (Your live app) or Sandbox (Test on your own phones). Until you're on a paid plan, Production shows a lock and Upgrade to go live instead.
Knowing where you are#
In the Sandbox, an amber Sandbox bar sits on every page: "Only approved test devices get anything here." It links to Test devices, and to Copy to Production once Production is open (or Upgrade to go live before that).
Sandbox limits#
The Sandbox is for building and testing, so it has its own limits instead of your plan's:
- 100 locations and 10 active campaigns (running or scheduled; paused and ended campaigns don't count).
- 250 MB of media.
- 25 approved test devices, and up to 50 waiting for approval.
- Location events are kept for 30 days.
Developers in Production#
Developers build in the Sandbox like anyone else. In Production they can view campaigns, locations, notifications, media and segments but not change them: they make changes in the Sandbox and an owner or admin copies them across.
pk_live_ key and copy your work across with Copy to Production. The SDK side is in Sandbox and Production for developers.
